Dont wanna sound too harsh or bad...but then here is an incident....which may bring tears to your eyes.....cos it did bring tears to mine.....
Mr. P V Sathaye..buys a Black 1968 Jawa 250..BRX 4333...from Jamshedpur...and after inspecting the bike asks the showroom attendent to go and fill fuel and come..the poor mechanic goes..fills fuel...and as he is coming towards the showroom..stops a while to answer natures call...he leaves the fuel cock on and the ignition key on the bike..he turns around to find someone..sitting on the bike and taking it away.....man o man..the bike zooms off...the mechanic chases it..like crazy...the bike sputters and stops after some time..the guy gets down and starts kicking furiously but the bike doesnt starts...the mechanic comes and grabs the thief..what happened later is typically bihari behaviour..not to be mentioned here.....
The bike stalled thanks to the most frequest prpblem in the bike..CARBURETTER FLODDDING..Wow......saved by a problem..finally Mr P V sathaye gets the bike home..and fits a Radio on the leg guard..man o man..imagine RD Burman Crooning as you hug the curves...Then he also extends his adventure by riding to Calcutta..some 400 odd kms...and then decide he needs to hit out to mahabaleshwar..so from calcutta to bombay..then pune then mahabaleshwar..then konkan..goa and then back to jamshedpur...these trips were damn damn adventurous and i have spent so many evenings chatting with this gentleman hearing what he did with his Y bike......i mean Jawa bike..then he comes back..the yr is 1971.....he parks the bike outside his house goes in to pick up some stuff..comes out to see the Bike GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh no....damn frustrated..he jusy can't do anything...claims insurance and gives up riding......after some 3 years in 1974..he is called up in the police station and sees BRX 4333 there...its in shit shape...rusted and burnt...it was used and abused and has a broken frame one shock missing obviously no wheels...he cries at the sight of it..and decides never to see another Jawa bike...
A real rider becomes an armchair sportsman...then he gets a rural posting into an interior Bihar Village...Giridih......and in the year 1976..he walks past a Y Bike showroom....in Bokaro..another city in Bihar...and sees a Wine red gleaming chromy beast in the showcase...
Memories come back to his eyes...he sees himself in the showroom riding on the bike...he rubs his eyes and realises he is outside..not inside...the Y bike simply stuns him..after all it was his first love wasnt it ???????
He stands on the footpath...and looks at the bike......walks in and enquires about the price...Rs 5469. Wow...next day he is there with loan papers..and thebike is his...he rides it to Giridih..without the registration number....another common thing in Bihar......enters his house..thundering...his wife is overjoyed at the sight of the Y bike...she was his Girlfriend in his college days..and was used to riding the J bike black one...his kids come out running and run around the Y bike......a few days later....the bike gets christened....its name BHO 4083......
Welll..i guess i have lots more to say but then after so many years BHO 4083 still is running.......and is with his son.....Mr P V Sathaye was my Dad..the great rider from whom i enherited my genes...my bike and my riding skills.....and of course my itch to ride into the horizon......
